SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- A San Luis Obispo police officer is now in FBI custody. Cory Pierce has been arrested for theft and the sale of drugs. He has also been charged with one count of bribery according to the Department of Justice.
Pierce has been an officer with the SLO Police Department for 7 years and the SLO County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit for the last year. In the FBI criminal complaint Pierce worked mainly with two sources to sells drugs around the county. He even allegedly told them the best places to purchase drugs in order to not get caught.
Investigators from the FBI believe he has been in the drug game for a year or more. As of Tuesday afternoon he was in custody with the FBI in Santa Maria. "Charges stem from the allegation that Officer Pierce provided placebo or fake prescription medication or pills in exchange for money to a confidential informant," said Chief Steve Gesell of the SLO Police Department.
In the FBI criminal complaint, it states, Pierce took the pills and methamphetamine from the San Luis Obispo Police Department in exchange for cash. According to the complaint, Pierce spoke to his sources about shooting heroin in his leg and wanting more. He also talked about stopping by the "office" to get pills.
Also an incident listed in the complaint, describes Pierce allegedly pulling someone over at gunpoint after meeting with them to set up a drug deal; Pierce then took morphine pills and some fire works from that person and let them go.
Neither the SLO County Sheriffs Office or SLO Police Departments drug tests their officers. Both said they are considering the option.
