LOMPOC, Calif.- Lompoc Police are searching for answers after a man's body is found in the middle of a busy intersection.

Robert Garcia says he pulled up to the intersection of College Avenue and I Street, minutes after a man was found dead in the street. The body was discovered at approximate 6:11 Wednesday morning.
"It appears it might be a hit and run traffic collision, but we are not positive," said Captain Ed Lardner, Lompoc Police Department.
Orange evidence markings in the street indicate exactly where the man's body was found.
"They also found a shopping cart at the intersection of the street. They started to render first aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene," said Lardner.
Nearby employees wouldn't go on camera, but tell Central Coast News after watching surveillance video it appears the man was walking across the street when an SUV hit him.
"At that time of morning it's a very busy intersection because the traffic going to and from Santa Barbara to Santa Maria, but also school is starting to come in session at about 7 o'clock, kids are going in early for early classes," explained Lardner.

"I hope he's realized what he's done and turns himself in it's the right thing to do for himself and for the sake of the man and his family, said Garcia.
