SF Giants World Series Trophies Coming To The Central Coast

PASO ROBLES, Calif. – Paso Robles will play host to the San Francisco Giants 2012 & 2010 World Series trophies on Friday, February 15, 2013.

The trophies are on a three-month public tour and will include other stops around California, including Lompoc on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 and San Luis Obispo on Thursday, February 14, 2013. At the Paso Robles event, the trophies will be on display from 4:30pm to 6:30pm and will include an appearance by retired Giants star Vida Blue.

Fans in attendance will have a chance to have a picture with the trophies by making a voluntary contribution, which will help suppor the area Junior Giants Baseball League. The trophy tour began on January 8, 2013 and will conclude on Opening Day, April 5, 2013. For more information, see story below.

Who: 2012 & 2010 Major League Baseball's Commissioner's Trophies

What/Why: The San Francisco Giants World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America will continue its three-month public tour in Paso Robles on Friday, February 15. Fans will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the trophies and to support their local Junior Giants Baseball League by making a voluntary contribution during the trophy viewing.

This will be the second public trophy tour held in the past three years. The focus of the San Francisco World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America is to share Major League Baseball's Commissioner's trophies, crafted by Tiffany & Co., with Giants fans in Junior Giants communities throughout northern California.

Celebrity Info: Retired Giants player Vida Blue will be in the Paso Robles City Park from 4:30 to 6:30 signing autographs for the public. Vida Blue played for the San Francisco Giants from 1978–81 and 1985–86. He is a six-time All-Star and is one of only four pitchers in major league history to start the All-Star Game for both the American League (1971) and the National League (1978). Baseball historian Bill James cited Blue as the hardest-throwing lefty, and the second hardest thrower of his era, behind only Nolan Ryan. He is currently a baseball analyst for Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, the TV home of the San Francisco Giants.

About Paso Robles PAL Jr. Giants Baseball Program: Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 20,000 boys and girls in 80 underserved communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon. It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives. Using baseball as the hook, Junior Giants provides opportunities for children to demonstrate confidence and leadership, to link with adult mentors and to develop a strong understanding of the importance of literacy and healthy living. Locally, the Junior Giants has been running in Paso Robles for 16 years and serve over 200 participants annually that would not normally have the opportunity or means to play baseball.
