SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- As rain and cold weather hit the central coast, warming centers are opening for the homeless.
And Santa Barbara County homeless centers say the best way to get the word out is through word of mouth.
The rain, rain, rain ain't going away which can be troublesome news to people with no place to go.
"Couple of weeks ago, I was out there in the rain," says homeless client Anton Plantaz. "It was cold!"
Santa Barbara County is opening up its warming centers to shelter its most vulnerable citizens.
So far, The Good Samaritan has 18 cots ready for the warming center but depending on the need, they expect to bring out even more.
"We clear away some of these tables and bring out these cots," says The Good Samaritan staff member Tricia Bausch. "We provide blankets and pillows and we basically have a sign-in sheet and we allow people from off the street to come in and have a place to sleep."
But how do they get word out when the people who need it most, don't have TVs or cell phones.
"We have everything from flyers out there but really all it takes is one person that finds out about it," says Bausch. "And they start telling the other people."
That's exactly, how found out and now he has a warm place to stay.
"I just thank God, that I'm in a warm spot, got a nice bed," says Plantaz. "I feel bad for some people that you know, but somebody told me about this place and I was lucky!"
The shelter also gets the word out by telling clients who get free meals at the Salvation Army.
