SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- The competition to be San Luis Obispo's Ambassador, or the new face for SLO to bring in tourism, is heating up. Some in the running could be taking notes from elected officials.
Running for senator may not be the same as running for SLO ambassador, but some of the tactics look pretty similar. "Obviously there is a lot of work and planning and effort where you mobilize your friends and family and supporters to get involved in the campaign," said former Senator Sam Blakeslee. Just like every person who is in the running for the job. They are using social media like facebook and twitter, but they are also using common strategies in order to win.
"People using different multimedia web tactics, posters, parties and photography," said Doug Klein, from Rosetta. This will sound familiar, almost every person who runs a campaign tries to get some air time. "Some people who have broadcast available to them, or have relationships with radio or TV stations are able to tap into those networks or who have been here longer," said Klein.
Former Senator Sam Blakeslee said there is one key difference in this contest and the kinds he's used to. "In an electoral campaign you always have opposition that is always working very hard to deconstruct what you are trying to do, this is a much happier campaign because everyone is simply showing off their strengths which actually I really like I wish politics could be more that way," said Blakeslee.
So far there are about 40 contestants, you can still vote or become a contestant.
