SAN LUIS OBISPO,
Calif. -- Getting a second chance, that's what ten San Luis Obispo County jail
inmates felt they got Saturday.
The inmates graduated
from the "Alternatives to Violence" program at the Sheriff's Honor Farm.
The program includes
60 hours of workshops that teach inmates leadership skills, how to resolve
conflicts peacefully as well as how to value themselves and
others.
"I have fully
applied myself into this program," says inmate graduate Stephen Cartwright. "It
has given me great tools. I mean, it broke me down and made me emotional, I
don't know what else to say!"
The graduates even
played guitar and a song with Sheriff Ian Parkinson who congratulated them on
the program.
San Luis Obispo County
Jail is one of two jails in California that offers the "Alternatives to
Violence" program.
