Goleta Costco Shoppers Evacuated After Reported Gas Leak

GOLETA, Calif. - People shopping at the Costco in Goleta on Monday afternoon had to get out quick after a dangerous gas started leaking from a refrigeration unit.

The leak was reported at the Costco on Marketplace Drive, shortly before 4pm. When fire crews arrived, they were able to shut down the compressors and stop the leak, involving a flammable gas that is nearly four times heavier than air.

Employees were allowed to go back inside around 6:30pm. No one was injured.
