BIG BEAR, Calif. -- Law enforcement agencies confirmed early Wednesday charred human remains were found in the rubble of a burned out cabin in Big Bear, but are awaiting forensic results before positively identifying the remains as those of ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner.
According to anonymous sources, a wallet and driver's license belong to Dorner were found in the ashes inside the cabin, as well.
Officials said they believe the remains are Dorner's, but the process of identifying them could take weeks. Earlier, Los Angeles Police were hesitant to confirm whether or not Dorner was dead, and said rumors of a body inside the cabin were false.
The cabin in which Dorner was believed to be holed up went up in flames after a shootout Tuesday afternoon between the suspect and authorities. The shootout left one deputy dead and another wounded.
Authorities say Dorner also held two housekeepers hostage and tied them up. According to investigators, one housekeeper was able to escape and called police.
Dorner has been the suspect in a massive ten-day manhunt, after police said he killed four people, including two officers. Dorner posted a manifesto on Facebook, where he claimed he was seeking revenge from being fires from the LAPD.
