Crews Knock Down Fire at Local Business

SANTA MARIA, Calif.-  Firefighters were able to knock down a small fire Monday evening at Cal State Auto Glass on the 2300 block of Skyway Drive.

The Santa Maria Fire Department responded to the fire at about 5:20pm. Officials tell Central Coast News it was discovered inside the main storage area and quickly spread throughout the building.

"We did get smoke damage into the adjacent occupancies, separate businesses on either side of the auto glass company and they were able to confirm it was no fire, just smoke," said Battalion Chief Alan Widling of Santa Maria Fire Department.

Crews had to use vertical ventilation to fan out the smoke and were able to knock down the fire in 25 minutes.  No one was injured in the fire.

Investigators say the fire was unintentionally caused by a pile of solvent soaked rags left in the workshop area.

The fire caused about $100,000 dollars in damage to the structure and $50,000 in damage to the contents inside. Nearby businesses suffered minor smoke and water damage.
