Posted: Updated:

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. -- It's jail for a man suspected of stealing purses in two different incidents over three days in Arroyo Grande.

Here's what the Arroyo Grande police say:

"On Monday, February 18th 2013, officers from the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to a robbery in progress at the local Kmart.  The suspect attempted to flee on a motorcycle, which was later determined to be stolen.  The motorcycle had altered license plates and had been recently painted to a new color.

The suspect, identified as (21 year old) Mykel Leo Romo of Atascadero, was physically detained by several citizens following his attempt to forcefully steal a purse from the victim, an 80 year old Arroyo Grande resident.  After a brief struggle with police officers, Suspect Romo was taken into custody on several felony charges to include robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle.  The 80 year old victim suffered minor injuries from being forced to the ground during the assault.  Suspect Romo was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

Mykel Romo is suspected in another robbery, which occurred on February 15th 2013, at the Arroyo Grande WalMart, where a 65 year old woman was robbed of her purse.  Both incidents are similar in circumstances, where the suspect approached elderly females asking for directions to Grand Avenue, prior to the robbery.  In both incidents, the suspect fled on a Yamaha motorcycle."
