ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. -- It's jail for a man suspected of stealing purses in two different incidents over three days in Arroyo Grande.
Here's what the Arroyo Grande police say:
"On
Monday,
February 18th 2013,
officers from the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to a robbery in
progress at the local Kmart. The suspect
attempted to flee on a motorcycle, which was later determined to be stolen. The motorcycle had altered license plates and
had been recently painted to a new color.
The
suspect, identified as (21 year old) Mykel Leo Romo of Atascadero, was physically detained by several citizens following his attempt to
forcefully steal a purse from the victim, an 80 year old Arroyo Grande resident.
After a brief struggle with police
officers, Suspect Romo was taken into custody on several felony charges to
include robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle. The 80 year old victim suffered minor
injuries from being forced to the ground during the assault. Suspect Romo was booked at the San Luis Obispo
County Jail.
Mykel
Romo is suspected in another robbery, which occurred on February 15th 2013,
at the Arroyo Grande WalMart, where a 65 year old woman was robbed of her
purse. Both incidents are similar in
circumstances, where the suspect approached elderly females asking for
directions to Grand Avenue,
prior to the robbery. In both incidents,
the suspect fled on a Yamaha motorcycle."
