Any youth group, including the Boy Scouts of America, that discriminates based on sexual orientation or gender identity, may no longer get a state tax exemption.
A new bill has been introduced by State Senator Richard Lara. He says, "SB 323 seeks to end the unfortunate discriminatory and outdated practices by certain youth groups by revoking their tax exemption privilege should they not comply with our non-discrimination laws."
The Boy Scouts of America are turning over thousands of documents detailing two decades of sex abuse allegations. A Santa Barbara County judge made that ruling lat month after a former scout claimed he was molested in 2007.
The Boy Scouts deny the allegations and say the records must remain confidential, to protect the privacy of victims and those accused.
