LOMPOC, Calif. - A water pipe break that left thousands without water yesterday is currently being worked on in the Mission Hills area of Lompoc.
Luckily for those living in Mission Hills, they only went without water for a few hours. Only a few businesses were still without water earlier today.
Crews were out moving dirt on Burton Mesa Road where the pipe burst. The pressure of the rushing water underneath the asphalt lifted up some portions of the road.
Jim MacKenzie, the board president of the Mission Hills Community Services District, says the piping is old in the area. The one that broke was 60 years old.
"Why it burst? Who knows. But with the aging infrastructure that we have, these water line breaks come every so often," says MacKenzie.
The Mission Hills Community Services District says it's bringing water from the city of Lompoc while the repairs are being done. Central Coast News was told the pipe should be completely fixed tomorrow.
The services district will need to do sanitation tests after the pipe is fixed before they start using their own water source again.
