SEASIDE, Calif. - Several law enforcement agencies on the Monterey Peninsula have come together to implicate a gun buyback program, and they need community help to make it happen.
It's scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2013, from 9am-5pm at Roberts Lake, on the corner of Roberts Avenue and Canyon Del Rey in Seaside.
The group says removing guns, along with the accessibility and availability of guns that could be used in the commission of a crime, is important for everyone's safety.
Because of that, the group is asking for support and monetary assistance from communities on the Monterey Peninsula.
They're giving $100 in cash for each gun turned into them. Organizers say they reserve the right to impose a limit on how many cash payments an individual can receive, regardless of the number of firearms surrendered.
Those firearms are to be unloaded and transported in the truck of the vehicle.
California Highway Patrol, California State University Monterey Bay Police Department, Carmel By-The-Sea Police Department, Del Rey Oaks Police Department Marina Police D epartment, Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Monterey POlice Department, Pacific Grove Police Department, Sand City Police Department and the Seaside Police Department are all involved in the program.
