San Luis Obispo House Fire Causes $350,000 In Damage

SAN LUIS OBISPO --5 people are homeless after a fire tore through their house Sunday evening.

The San Luis Obispo City Fire Department responded to the structure fire at 4353 Vachell Lane at 7:13 PM Sunday evening.

The first firefighters on scene found a rapidly spreading fire involving a four bedroom single-story house, an attached garage, a storage shed, and 2 vehicles.

The garage, shed, and vehicles were fully involved, and the residence was 50% involved.

Firefighter worked quick and hard and three of the four bedrooms were spared significant damage. 

They had the fire under control within 25 minutes of the initial 9-1-1 call.

Damage is estimated at over $350,000.

Fire Investigator Dennis Byrnes says the fire started in the garage, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The house did not have working smoke detectors according to the people living in the house.
