SAN FRANCISCO – The Alex Smith era for the San Francisco 49ers appears to be coming to end. According to CBS Sports, the former top pick in the NFL draft has been traded by the 49ers to an unknown team, but the transaction is being held up because the official league season does not begin until March 12th.
Smith, began the past season as the starting quarterback, but was passed by when head coach Jim Harbaugh decided to promote Colin Kaepernick. The move paid off with the team going all the way to Super Bowl XLVII, where the 49ers fell to the Baltimore Ravens. Sources are speculating the teams that might be interested in acquiring Smith include the Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars.
