ATASCADERO, Calif. - The plans for the new hotel in Atascadero have been submitted and it's all steam ahead for the new Marriott SpringHill Suites scheduled to open in the spring of next year.

The city says, "the hotel will be constructed near the Home Depot Center at the north end of Atascadero, just off the San Ramon Rd / Santa Cruz Rd. and HWY 101 interchange.  According to the Project Manager, construction of the on-site improvements is expected to begin this spring, and the hotel is scheduled to be open in spring 2014.

The City of Atascadero is very excited to welcome the new Marriott SpringHill Suites hotel, which includes an upscale, all suite, extended stay hotel facility, with a large exhibit space for conferences, weddings, or other events. Council member Heather Moreno states, "the SpringHill Suites are a welcome addition to the community.  Atascadero is the gateway to the Central Coast and this is one more attraction for people who are looking to visit our beautiful county." Council member Bob Kelley says that he is "looking forward to the start of construction which will energize the local construction industry by creating new jobs and building material sales. Upon completion of the hotel, dozens of new permanent jobs will be generated which will be a big plus for our local citizens and our economy".

The facility will cost about $20-million to construct, and will generate $400,000 annually from property, sales and transient occupancy tax. The City of Atascadero hopes the project will spur additional development in the area and expand tourism opportunities throughout the City.  The 130 room Marriott hotel was approved by the Planning Commission in October 2012.  The site also includes two outparcels for future detached retail or restaurant buildings.
