SANTA MARIA, Calif. - President Obama's comments about the looming budget caused quite a stir with science fiction fans on social media.
Earlier today, Obama spoke at a press conference about the sequester. He said, "Most people agree I'm presenting a fair deal. The fact that they don't take it means that I should somehow, you know, do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what's right."
But Sci Fi fans say the President made a mix up because he mixed up two common terms from "Star Trek" and "Star Wars." In Star Trek, there is the "Vulcan mind meld", while "Jedi mind trick" is from "Star Wars."
His comment sent the Twitterverse on fire today. Even Leonard Nimoy, the original Doctor Spock, tweeted "Only a Vulcan mind meld will help with this congress. LLAP."
But the White House ran with the jokes and released a photo response of their own on Twitter, with a caption that reads: "These cuts aren't the solutions Americans are looking for. To deny the facts would be illogical."
