Nipomo Equestrians Say Dumping Fees Cause Of Increased Illegal Dumping

Posted: Updated:
NIPOMO, Calif. -- Illegal dumping is becoming a huge problem for the community of Nipomo.

Equestrians says trash filling up their paths are it's ruining the beauty of the landscape.

It's getting so bad, one equestrian group is fighting back.

About 30 volunteers from multiple agencies picked up trash at the Widmark property near Scenic View Drive.

Ride Nipomo filled more than three large bins to the brim with trash--everything from scrap wood to old tires.

They say people are doing this because dumping fees are too expensive.

"If you have people who are making minimum wage, raising a family--I don't know how they can afford to dump all the time," says Equestrian Anne Dunbar. "People who don't have regular garbage pick up."

Dunbar says she hopes the county will offer reduced dumping fees for those who can't afford it.
