Wanted: Life Guards for Pismo State Beach and Oceano Dunes

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. -- The California Department of Parks and Recreation are looking for ocean lifeguards at Pismo State Beach and Oceano Dunes.

Starting pay is $14.91 an hour.

A try-out swim is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 9 a.m. at the base of Grand Avenue in Grover Beach.

To register and warm up, you need to be there at 8:15 a.m.

While wetsuits are not required, they are highly recommended.

Here are the qualifications:

  • Picture ID is REQUIRED before the swim test.
  • You must possess a valid CA driver's license at the time of appointment
  • Minors are required to have a parent or guardian PRESENT at the swim test for waiver signature.
  • You must pass the following competitive swim tests:
    1. 1,000 yard open ocean swim in less than 20 minutes.
    2. Continuous 200 yard run, 400 yard swim, 200 yard run in less than 10 minutes.
  • Interviews will be scheduled upon successful completion of both swim tests.
