UPDATE: No Bomb Found at Santa Maria Bank After Implied Threat

Posted: Updated:

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - A bomb scare shut down a Santa Maria bank on Wednesday.

Police say someone called in a bomb threat this afternoon at the Santa Barbara Bank and Trust on Betteravia Road.

Authorities called out the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad to investigate the contents of a safety deposit box.  They did not find a bomb or anything suspicious in their search.

"We definitely don't want anyone to get hurt and these things take time and a lot of resources," said Sergeant Chris Nartatez of the Santa Maria Police Department.  "But to ensure the safety of everybody, we make sure we do it correctly and appropriately."

Meantime, authorities are still investigating who called in the threat.

The bank will open again on Thursday for regular business hours.
