UPDATE: At least $1 Million of Marijuana Discovered Near Boat on VAFB

VANDENBERG AFB, Calif.  -  Investigators confirm at least $1 million of marijuana was discovered near an overturned boat north of Wall Beach. As of Thursday evening, authorities are still searching for possible suspects.

Vandenberg Air Force Base personnel stumbled upon a 20-foot aluminum boat filled with at least one million dollars worth of marijuana. Officials say never before has a panga boat been discovered on their own property.

"We are looking for any potential suspects. There were no weapons found there were no personnel found and we have determined there is no threat to the base or local community," said Commander Nina Armagno, 30th Space Wing.

Just before 1:00 Thursday afternoon, base personnel found the boat flipped over washed ashore with its engine removed, and trash bags full of marijuana were discovered in the sand.

"These large bags of kind of like dark colored trash bags stacked and actually they have been covered and it looks like an attempt to camouflage them with surrounding brush," explained Armagno.

Which has authorities concerned, as they continue to search for the suspects who were in the boat.

"That makes us suspect they might come back or they might have thought they were going to come until they thought they were on an air force base so we are going to be extremely vigilant of the area," said Armagno.

The Department of Homeland Security has taken over the investigation. As of Thursday evening, officials cannot confirm how or why the boat landed at Wall Beach, but they suspect it could be because of a possible crash or mechanical trouble.
