Gang Expert Could Help Define Motive for Dystiny Myers Murder

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- With only days left until the defense and prosecution try to persuade a jury in the Dystiny Myers murder case, there is new information that might shed some light on how the case could play out.

Assistant District Attorney Tim Covello is bringing in a gang expert to explain the gang jargon Rhonda Wisto used during the time of the killing. "There will be testimony that after the killing Rhonda Wisto said to her son he had earned his laces, that's a very specific reference in the gang world, red laces have to do with drawing blood or a first kill," said Covello during a motion hearing Friday.

He said in court it would offer evidence behind the motive that Wisto ordered the killing because Myers disrespected her. "She gives respect, she demands respect, she receives respect, and they are central to showing the state of mind that lead to the motive," said Covello in court.

Pictures of Myers body will also be used, Covello said only to show the malice and intent of her murder, however the photos will be limited. Letters written by Frank York to two women while in jail will also be used during trial. Wisto's former cell mate will also be called to the stand to testify against her.

Opening statements begin Monday
