For teenage girls finding a prom dress is a rite of passage, but not all of them can afford it.
"These are the girls who can't afford it and we invited girls who may be able to afford it but just want to save money," says Ayer.
More than 370 dresses were donated from all over the community and Cinderella's closet already gave away dresses to 75 girls.
"I feel like it looks like a wedding dress," says Righetti High School Senior Alex Wilckers as she tries on a white gown."It's one of the most beautiful dresses, I've ever seen and I can't believe it's free."
For Alex Wilckers, prom night will be even more special because it's going to be her very first dance.
"And I don't even know how to dance yet!" says Wilckers. "I'm going to have to take some dance lessons 'cause I don't even know!"
And after trying on several dresses, she found the perfect one.
"It made me a lot less nervous for it," says Wilckers. "I feel more confident and I can just have fun."
But as for her date?
"Hopefully, someone will ask," says Wilckers. "I'm available."
Volunteers hope to make Cinderella's Closet an annual tradition on the central coast. All dresses left over from this year will be ready for the program next year.
