TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – The sequester is hitting home here on the Central Coast as the United States Air Force is forced to cut some key outreach events.
Here is what the USAF is saying:
As a result of Department of Defense guidance on sequestration, the USAF Band of the Golden West has canceled upcoming concerts in support of community outreach programs, quite possibly for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The USAF Band of the Golden West will cease performing for non-local, public affairs outreach events for the general public. This includes the cancellation of performances for schools, festivals, public concerts, and sporting events.
The USAF Band of the Golden West has been directed to cancel support to these events, but the Air Force will continue to remain focused on priorities of wartime missions, Wounded Warrior programs, and new defense strategy programs, while striving to protect family programs. Engaging with the public is a primary mission for USAF Bands, and we will continue to seek additional ways to remain engaged with the American public.
The following scheduled performances by The Blue Yonders in areas surrounding Vandenberg Air Force Base are canceled as a result of this directive:
March 26—Second Annual "Concert at SLC-10", Historic Space Launch-10, Vandenberg AFB, Calif.
March 27—Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, Santa Maria, Calif.
March 28—Crestview Elementary, Vandenberg AFB, Calif.
March 29—Pismo Beach Veteran's Memorial Hall, Pismo Beach, Calif.
March 30—Solvang Festival Theater, Solvang, Calif.
