TEMPLETON, Calif. - An autopsy has confirmed that a Templeton man died after accidentally shooting himself, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office announced Friday.

The investigation has revealed that 48-year-old Robert Stark Hickey died from a single gunshot wound.

Investigators say Hickey was home alone at the time of his death and was later discovered by a family member. Deputies responded to the home in the 2800 block of Cloudy Meadow Road after receiving a 911 call on the night of March 6.

"Although the accident was not witnessed, forensic evidence at the scene and autopsy results determined the incident was the result of an accidental discharge of a rifle by Hickey as he was placing the weapon into a ranch utility vehicle," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
