SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A group of UC Santa Barbara students recently went across campus doing random acts of kindness and posted it on YouTube.
The video shows them doing many acts, like giving flowers, handing out free scantrons, and writing letters of appreciation.
One of the members of the group, Bethany Stevens, said they were initially inspired by a quote from President Obama's speech at the Sandy Hook Elementary Vigil. She said they were inspired by the part when Obama said, "We're showing acts of kindness. We don't go wrong when we do that."
She also mentioned First Lady Michelle Obama's speech at the National Democratic Convention also played an influence, along with similar online videos of people helping others.
"Although our acts were small and humble and designed to simply give a smile or make someone's day a little better, they can be a small step in making a community a more beautiful place. " said Stevens.
The group created the video for their "Writing for Multimedia" class. So far, the video has close to 1,000 views.
