SAN LUIS OBISPO,
Calif. -- San Luis Obispo Police are out in full force for Saint
Patrick's Day.
Officers have been patrolling the downtown area since 6 a.m. as people
celebrate throughout the streets.
Police say it's
one of their biggest Holidays resulting in dozens of
arrests.
"We've had thirteen
arrests at this point up until 11 a.m.," says San Luis Obispo Police Captain
Chris Staley. "Most of them are for drunk in public. We've had a DUI. We've had
fights."
Police are at max
deployment which means all 57 officers will be on patrol to keep the public
safe.
"This is what I do on
Saint Patty's Day," says bar customer Jack Ture. "I get
wasted."
And it's costing the
city thousands of dollars in overtime pay and extra resources as bars fill to
maximum capacity throughout the night.
"Safety is the biggest
concern," says San Luis Obispo resident Dane Sensor. "You know, kids drinking. I
was amazed at the number of arrests. I even called 911 at a time and they
couldn't even answer because they were so overwhelmed."
