SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Police say a suspect stabbed a woman at his dinner table over the weekend in Santa Barbara.
Police say 20-year-old Sam Wellington Maphis V surrendered to Santa Barbara Police after allegedly cutting a woman's throat, then threatening his uncle. They say the woman had accompanied another person that had been invited to the dinner on Saturday night.
Maphis allegedly fled the scene after the incident but was found at Las Positas Park, where he eventually surrendered.
Police say mental illness may be a factor.
Maphis has been booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on $2,500,000 dollars bail.
Meantime, the victim is supposed to recover from her injury.
