Charges Filed Against UCSB Student Who Allegedly Lied About Sexual Assault

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office says it has filed criminal charges against 20-year-old Morgan Triplett, a UC Santa Barbara student, for giving false information to police.

These charges stem from an alleged assault reported on the UC Santa Cruz campus on February 17.

The charges are based on false information given by Triplett when she called 911 claiming that she had been severely beaten and then sexually assaulted by a stranger she encountered while she was walking on a path on the campus, according to the DA's office.

After an extensive investigation it became apparent that the majority of the information that Triplett gave the officers was not in fact true, the DA's office said.

Triplett is expected to be arraigned within the next week.
