SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A new study by the Santa Barbara Police Department shows there has been a rise of violent crimes within the city.
The study measured crime over the past two months. Police attribute them to more problems with homeless suspects, as well as bar fights.
They also surveyed other types of crimes. They say robberies and property crimes have decreased and note that most home burglaries happen at unlocked home where items of value, like electronics, are visible.
The study also notes that the overall number of gang incidents remains unchanged.
The survey was measured by statistical analysis and input from Patrol Division and Investigative Division supervisors who handle crime reports.
