Prosecution Says Dystiny Myers Case Brought To Justice

Posted: Updated:
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A jury convicts defendants Rhonda Wisto and Frank York guilty in the murder of 15 year old Dystiny Myers.

It took less than two hours for the jury to bring back guilty verdicts for Wisto and York on all counts: conspiracy to commit murder and first degree murder with special circumstances of kidnapping and torture of Dystiny Myers.

Both defendants will be sentenced on May 8th.

Wisto and York face 25 years to life in prison and because of the special circumstances of kidnapping and torture, they won't get a chance at parole.

Dystiny Myers' mother Aileen and her family were visibly shaken and crying as they listened to the verdicts.

"The community has spoken," says San Luis Obispo Assistant District Attorney Tim Covello. "They spoke rapidly. Grateful to the jury, they have spoken to Dystiny and her family and given us justice."

The prosecution relied heavily on the crucial testimony of Jason Greenwell who participated in the murder.

"He was able to put the jury in the room and give them detailed information that the jury would not have otherwise," says Covello.

And that information put Wisto and York behind bars, giving Dystiny's family some closure.

"More than anything, it was relief," says Covello. "They've waited more than two and a half years to get justice for Dystiny.
