SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Employment Development Department has released unemployment figures for the month of February, and the news is positive.
Santa Barbara County's unemployment rate was 7.7 percent, down from 8.4 percent in January.
San Luis Obispo County's unemployment rate was 7.0 percent, down from 7.5 percent.
California's unemployment rate was 9.6 percent, down from 9.8 percent. Employers added more than 41,000 jobs, mainly in the leisure and hospitality and government sectors, according to the data by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
California, Nevada and Mississippi are now tied for the highest unemployment rate in the nation.
