SALINAS, Calif. - Anthony Vincent Perez is being charged with four felony accounts of tax evasion and two misdemeanor counts of violating workers compensation code.
His lawyer, John Klopfenstein, says, "He failed to pay taxes and the reason being was because he felt that each and every one of his workers were independent contractors as opposed to being employees, and that of course is illegal, but he was given advice from a CPA that he could do this."
Also, the Executive Security Agency patrols Old Town Salinas. The President of the Old Town Association, Amit Pandya, was happy with the ESA's service for Salinas, but is unsure if the town will continue to use the company.
Pandya say, "The whole issue about the misdemeanor is tabled, and the agenda for our executive board meeting coming up this Thursday is that we will go through all the details, and make a decision at that point."
Anthony Perez will be arraigned in Salinas on April 30th. His lawyer says he plans to plead not guilty.
