Salinas Standoff Over, Police Take Suspect Away in Ambulance
SALINAS, Calif- Natividad Elementary School in Salinas was on lockdown all day long after a man barricaded himself in a house near the school. Police were on scene since 7:30 Friday morning and the standoff finally ended around 5:30 p.m. when SWAT members raided the home and took the suspect away in an ambulance.
Central Coast News reporter Michelle Pulido was on scene all day and said police officers were ordering a man to come out of a home on Tehama Circle.
Salinas Police were able to make contact with the man before the standoff began. They said he threw items at police and then bit an officer in the arm. That officer had to get medical treatment.
Police say at one point there were three hostages inside the home. All three were able to get out and are safe.
According to witnesses, a young girl, possibly 13 years old, was seen coming out of the house in the morning and trying to jump over a fence but was unsuccessful. A short time later, officers broke down the fence.
Neighbors tell us that police officers responded to that same home on Thursday after a male suspect in his 30s was seen trying to attack people with a stick in front of the residence.
