SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol said a man was struck by a vehicle on southbound Highway 101, south of the Carrillo Street undercrossing, in Santa Barbara Thursday morning.
Officers said the man ran up the Carrillo Street on-ramp around 6:30 a.m., then ran up the dirt embankment, and continued into the lanes of the freeway.
The man was struck in the middle lane by car traveling southbound on the 101, which then caused a three-vehicle accident, the CHP said.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. His condition is not known.
A passenger riding in one of the cars involved in the crash was taken to the hospital for a complaint of pain.
