SOUTH MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif.- On Friday night, nine different agencies on the Central Coast came together to tackle gang crime in a gang suppression operation.
Central Coast News rode along with officers as they swept through all four South Monterey County cities including Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield and King City. They made nearly 30 visits and arrested several people for parole and other violations. Officers said doing sweeps a few times a year keeps gang crime down.
"If we don't have a stolen car or we don't have a shooting because they dont want to go to jail and they know that there's 35 or 40 of us out here doing this, its a good night," said Soledad Police Commander Damon Wasson.
Wasson said this is the 34th year south county police agencies have been able to run a large scale gang suppression operation.
