SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - One man has been arrested and another is being treated at the hospital following a fight in San Luis Obispo.
SLO Police said they received a call around 1:30 a.m. Monday about a fight at the intersection of Calle Joaquin and Los Osos Valley Road.
The first officer on scene found the 28-year-old male victim face down and unconscious in the street. An ambulance transported him to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Officers located witnesses who said that two men had been involved in an argument inside of the AM/PM market located at that intersection. After the argument the two men went into the street and began to fight.
It is still unclear what precisely started the fight, but the victim was knocked unconscious and suffered significant facial injuries, police said.
Based on the evidence and witness information, the officers were able to locate the other person involved in the fight, who they identified as 27-year-old Gregory Gonoch, of Buckeye, AZ.
Gonoch was detained and also treated at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for injuries to his hands.
According to police, the investigation revealed that apparently the two men met earlier through a mutual friend. The two walked from a local hotel to the AM/PM where they became engaged in an argument, which became physical in the street.
During the fight, Gonoch kicked the victim in the face and head, in addition to punching him, which resulted in serious facial injuries, police said.
Gonoch was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon (feet) and mayhem. He was expected to be booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail Monday afternoon.
