SALINAS, Calif.- The attack on Boston has impacted the people on the central coast so much that locals are stepping up to help. Despite being three thousand one hundred eight-five miles away from the heart of Boston, Oldtown Salinas Association teamed up with local merchants to raise money for the victims of the Boston Marathon.
Now people in the community can show their support by purchasing "Boston" items around town. Brian Higgins the Executive Director of Oldtown Association explained his reasoning for starting this fundraising idea.
"Some people can sit down and write a big check and other people are not able to so in our small way we can buy a cupcake, a clam chowder, or a beer after work and help our neigbors in Boston."
Fluff Cupcakery is featuring a Boston creme pie cupcake, Grower's pub is selling a New England Clam chowder, and The Bakery Station has Boston creme pie pop-tarts for sale.
The sales in Oldtown will be going on until next week. The funds will be collected from the Oldtown Association, and then they will write a check to a fund for the Boston marathon victims.
