SALINAS, Calif. - The Salinas Police Department says one of its officers who was off-duty was arrested for DUI following a crash Friday afternoon.
Police responded to a traffic accident involving a motorcycle at West Blanco and Riker Street around 4 p.m.
Officers say the off-duty officer lost control of his motorcycle and ended up on the pavement. He suffered minor injuries.
The officer -- who only been identified as a seven-year veteran -- was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was cited and processed at an area CHP office and then released pending his appearance in court. He has since been placed on paid administrative leave.
The police department tells Central Coast News that the officer was not taken to jail because no other parties were injured. Police say he was not given any special treatment.
The police department says its internal investigation is ongoing.
