CAMARILLO, Calif. - A fast-moving, wind-driven wildfire continues to burn out of control Friday morning in the Ventura County city of Camarillo.
More than 900 firefighters are fighting the "Springs Fire," which has scorched about 10,000 acres. The fire started off Highway 101 in Camarillo at 6:30 a.m. Thursday and has been rapidly spreading, due to intense winds up to 47 miles an hour.
An agricultural storage facility, along with dozens of recreational vehicles, have been destroyed. The fire is currently threatening about 4,000 homes in the area and 15 have already sustained damage.
The fire has forced the closure of Highway 101 from Las Posas Road to the Los Angeles/Ventura County line.
Ventura County Fire officials say the fire is approximately 10 percent contained.
Dozens of firefighters from the Central Coast are battling the flames including Santa Barbara County Fire and Cal Fire San Luis Obispo. Crews say strong Santa Ana winds are making it difficult for them to get the upper hand.
Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Sycamore Canyon, La Jolla Canyon and Brrome Ranch.
The Red Cross has set up evacuation centers at the Thousand Oaks Community Center on Moorpark Road and the Calvary Community Chapel on Mobil Avenue.
No injuries have been reported.
The California Emergency Management Agency has sent two strikes teams in response to the "Springs Fire" and other fires.
Meanwhile, crews continue to battle a nearly 3,000-acre fire in the Riverside County city of Banning. Cal Fire officials say the "Summit Fire" is 65 percent contained.
Firefighters are also battling a fire near Butte Meadows in Tehama County which has burned about 6,393 acres. Cal Fire says the "Panther Fire" is 10 percent contained.
