SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. -- Animal Services received several reports over the last few days of a pit bull-type dog wandering in the area of Vineyard and Posada Avenue near the Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton.
Witnesses told animal control the dog was seen wandering into areas with heavy traffic and would occasionally walk into the roadway. People who called about the dog said he appeared to have an injured leg, animal services said.
Several witnesses and animal control officers tried to catch the dog, but was too scared of people and avoided them every time someone came close to it. Animal Services decided they needed to somehow sedate the dog because it needed medical attention. The dog was hit with a dart gun around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and taken to the shelter for care.
Animal Control Officers say they do not know who the dog's owner is at this time. The pet had nothing on it that could identify where it came from.
