SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Investigators responded to reports of a fight that broke out Tuesday night behind a church. A man was found with severe stab wounds, police say he died 30 minutes later at the hospital from his injures.
Officers arrived on scene around 11:00 p.m. along the 900 block of Santa Barbara Street. The 57-year old victim was found in the parking lot shared by a church and several businesses by Santa Barbara Street and East Carrillo Street.
The victim was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:33 p.m. Officers say the victim is known to be homeless in the Santa Barbara area.
Police are still investigating whether the fatal stabbing was gang-related. So far no arrests have been made. The victim's name has not been released by police at this time.
