ORCUTT, Calif. -- Fire crews have completely contained the Rice Fire that started on East Rice Ranch Road and Bradley. Santa Barbara County Firefighters estimate 36 acres have burned.
Mandatory evacuations were issued Thursday afternoon for residents South of Rice Ranch Road and Stubblefield Rd and for the areas of Via Alta North to El Cerrito and South into the Unical Oilfield. Officials say about 200 homes were threatened.
Progress of the fire started to slow around 3:10 p.m. Approximately 595 reverse 911 calls were made to residents in the area.
The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center at Ernest Righetti High located at 941 E Foster Rd. in Santa Maria for people who need assistance.
Firefighters say no injuries have been reported from the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
