PISMO BEACH, Calif. - Two Pismo Beach Police Officers are recovering from having their hands slashed while attempting to arrest a trespassing suspect Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 1:00pm on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the Pismo Coast Shopping Center on a call of a trespassing in progress. Officers had the description of an adult male with a backpack and dog - and were able to locate the subject and make contact with him. According to the Pismo Beach Police Department, the primary officer on scene established probable cause for arrest and waited for the secondary officer to arrive on scene.
As the second officer approached, the primary officer began to affect the arrest. The suspect resisted arrest and a fight insued. During the struggle to get the suspect into custody, the suspect pulled a knife and both officers sustained knife wounds to their hands before getting the suspect into custody.
The officers received medical treatment and have been released from the hospital.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Arthur Groneman was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained while resisting arrest and was released for interview and booking into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
Groneman is booked on two counts of attempted murder on a peace officer.
