LOMPOC, Calif. - On Wednesday, Central Coast News spoke with a local roofing company that was going to be setting up a booth at the Lompoc Flower Festival in hopes of getting potential clients for roof repairs. We met up with the two owners today to get a progress report on the turnout.
Mark Braithwaite, owner of A to Z Roofing in Lompoc, says, "I'd be up on the roof right now roofing. And what better place to be sitting at the local Flower Festival in the shade with the water in your chair and sandals."
It's a nice change of scenery for Braithwaite. He and co-owner Elisabeth have been sitting at the booth at the festival since Wednesday. They have their clipboard on hand to get signatures for free estimates on roof repairs.
Last year they received about 17 total signatures, leading to 5 jobs that made them about $40,000 dollars. Entering this weekend they only received a few signatures. But for Mark, that's ok.
"Just being here, letting them know we are here is enough," says Braithwaite.
Festival organizers expect tens of thousands to come to Lompoc this weekend. Mark and Elisabeth are expecting things to pick up right when the weekend comes around.
"A lot of people come from the parade right into the park," says Braithwaite. "Last year our best jobs were from people from Solvang."
So it's wait and see for Mark and Elisabeth, passing out business cards and brochures in the meantime.
Central Coast News will be speaking with Mark and Elisabeth again when the festival concludes to see if the weekend was as busy as they expect.
