Dear Jon - Driving the highways of the central coast can be frustrating with construction delays. Cliff writes to me and asks, "Dear Jon, why has worked stopped on the Santa Maria Bridge on Highway 101?
Driving through construction zones can be nerve wracking at times and we wonder when is the work going to be finished? Caltrans assures me that work has not stopped on the Santa Maria Bridge on the 101. But there was a slow down for about two weeks due to some nesting birds within the project area.
During the holiday week work on the bridge resumed accept the demolition project. That project resumed this week. Caltrans says there will be no delay in the completion of the project due to the nesting birds and they're still on schedule to have the bridge completed before the end of the year.
Pile driving resumed this week and scheduling of the pile driving was not related to the nesting birds. Caltrans says they'll send out a flyer to the local residents on the project.
