WASHINGTON D.C. -- President Barack Obama gave a brief speech about the Trayvon Martin murder trial.
The president gave condolences to the family and friends of Trayvon Martin. When he talked about the trial he said that's how the legal system works, and "Trayvon Martin could have been me."
President Obama continued to say "When you think about why in the African-American community, at least, there's a lot of pain around what happened here, it's important to recognize the African-American community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and history that doesn't go away," said Obama.
"When Trayvon Martin was first shot, I said this could've been my son. Another way of saying that is, Trayvon Martin could've been me 35 years ago," the president said.
When asked, Obama did not comment on whether he spoke with Trayvon Martin's family.
