OCEANO, Calif- There's a reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects who stabbed a local man to death. At the time of the murder in Oceano, there was an arrest, but that person was not charged.
According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, Joseph Padilla was stabbed and killed in front of a home on the 13-hundred block of 19th street in Oceano. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office was pointed in the direction of one man, Joseph Munoz. "Through a number of witnesses that were involved and saw the incident they were able to indicate that Munoz might be a person of interest in this incident so we wanted to talk with him," said Tony Cipolla, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer.
Two days later they found him in Santa Maria. He then lead deputies on a chase. "Went through the city of Santa Maria, speeds up to 70 miles an hour. It finally ended in Guadalupe. They pulled over and Munoz was arrested without incident," said Cipolla. However, he was not arrested for homicide but for a parole violation. He is currently in SLO County Jail for the violation.
Munoz is also a known gang member with a list of priors in the five cities and San Luis Obispo. The Sheriff's Office hope this reward will entice the public to come forward with information. If you have any information regarding additional suspects in the murder you can call crime stoppers 24-hour hotline at 805-549-STOP.
