NEAR LOS ALAMOS - Cal/OSHA says its launched an investigation into the death of 36 year old Roberto Garcia of Bakersfield who fell while working on an oil rig at a site along Cat Canyon Road near Old Rig Road east of Los Alamos last Saturday.
"The information we have now is that he fell and he was pronounced dead at the scene", says Cal/OSHA spokesperson Greg Siggins.
Cal/OSHA says Garcia worked as a floor hand for Key Energy Services Inc.
The global energy company's web site says its based in Houston, Texas and has operations in Bakersfield.
A phone call from Central Coast News to Key Energy Headquarters in Houston seeking comment about the accident last Saturday and more information about Roberto Garcia was not returned.
Cal/OSHA says its investigation into the death of Roberto Garcia will probe any possible workplace safety violations by any of the companies involved.
"They are going to review the training documents that employees might have been trained with, they will talk to any witnesses that might have been present at the scene", Siggins says, "if at the end of the investigation they find that the employer has violated any part of the Labor Code, citations will be issued for those violations."
Cal/OSHA has up to six months to complete its investigation.
