LONDON, October 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Wahida Mohamed set up her language training company Language Tuition Plus in February this year. She tells Bizcrowd how it's going so far.
Welcome to Bizcrowd, Wahida. Tell us about your business
Language Tuition Plus [http://www.bizcrowd.com/languagetuitionplus] provides unique language services to the international community in the UK and overseas. We provide language tuition, translation and interpretation as well as employability services. Customers can purchase 1 to 12 months service package in the area of support they need in a particular point of time.
At the moment we are focusing on the British and French markets, but we would like to extend later to other markets. We are based in London and deliver our services online (via Skype), face-to-face and over the phone.
I run the business single-handedly and I have a team of professionals working with me, including Language Teachers, Translators, Interpreters, Business Mentors and Advisers.
What inspired you to start the business?
I've got 18 years' experience teaching English and French to groups of students of different ages and backgrounds. I am originally from Toulouse, France, but I moved to London 20 years ago. When I first came to the UK I didn't know where to turn for support.
That's why I came up with the idea of providing language tuition but also providing the employability package to help people get into employment, Higher Education or start their own business in the UK. I help communities settle into the UK or anyone already settled in the UK to improve professionally and make their dream come true.
After teaching in different settings and meeting different students, I realised that people wanted flexibility in their learning methods and environment, because not everyone has access to learning facilities. That's why I came up with offering my services either in the comfort of your home, office or pre- arranged venue.
Do you just teach adults?
No, I can teach children as well as adults - I have a PGCE in modern foreign languages, a CELTA (certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages) and an NVQ3 in Early Years. So as well as adults and corporations, I'm also targeting nursery, primary and secondary schools, and higher education institutions.
What has your business journey been like?
This is my first business so I had some business management training and support before I set up, from an organisation in Croydon. Part of that has included mentoring from other professionals in business and consultancy.
The main challenge in setting up the business was probably planning the financial forecast - I definitely needed some support with that. I've also needed help with the marketing, in terms of web design, printing leaflets and business cards and so on. But I'm up to date now with social media, which was a brand new thing at the beginning!
What have been the high points so far?
I've already had positive feedback from clients and a good response from the website. The launch of the business was great - we hired a room at the Hilton Hotel in Purley. I delivered a workshop and a presentation on the day and distributed my promotional material. It was all about getting myself out there and spreading the word.
